Serving as Friends for Life Publicity Director is a perfect fit for Diane Andrews.
“I can help publicize our events at Life’s Garden and post information about FFL from anywhere,” says Diane, a frequent traveler. With Zoom, she can even attend Leadership Team meetings remotely.
Diane, who joined the team in 2020, uses her background in writing to raise awareness of FFL. She authored an article for The Silicon Valley Voice newspaper about the FFL mask-making project during the COVID-19 pandemic (https://www.svvoice.com/the-miracle-of-the-masks/). She initiated the Friends for Life at Life’s Garden Facebook page in 2020 and a website in 2022.
A Santa Clara resident, Diane enjoys interacting with other FFL volunteers as they pool their creativity to bring fun to the appreciative Life’s Garden senior residents. She joins other volunteers in assembling gift bags of goodies for distribution to the seniors.
“I wanted to volunteer for a community service organization that originated as an outreach of my church,” says Diane, a member of Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church.
A graduate of Albion College in her home state of Michigan and San Jose State University, she travelled the world as a flight attendant for Pan American World Airways. When she later became an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher at Foothill College, the world came to her.
“I love the diversity of the Bay Area,” says Diane, who enjoys hiking with friends. “When possible, I prefer to walk and talk rather than sit and talk.”
She and her late mom co-founded Tote Your Stuff (www.toteyourstuff.com), designing and making fabric purses and accessories.
